Bible Verses regarding infectious diseases like Corona Virus COVID-19

The people of God has to deal with infectious diseases in the past. God has laid down some ways to handle them and to warn of the wrath of the land due to disobedience and turning away from God. Instead of thirsting after God, the pursuit of life has caused our youth to die of thirst (the lack of Godliness).

Amos 8:3

The songs in the temple will be mourning.

Amps 8:8

Land of mourning

Amos 8:10-13

I’ll turn your parties into funerals

and make every song you sing a dirge.

Everyone will walk around in rags,

with sunken eyes and bald heads.

Think of the worst that could happen

    —your only son, say, murdered.

That’s a hint of Judgment Day

    —that and much more.

11-12 “Oh yes, Judgment Day is coming!”

These are the words of my Master God.

“I’ll send a famine through the whole country.

It won’t be food or water that’s lacking, but my Word.

Amos Chapter 8

A Basket of Ripe Fruit

8 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: a basket of ripe fruit. 2 “What do you see, Amos?” he asked.

“A basket of ripe fruit,” I answered.

Then the Lord said to me, “The time is ripe for my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.

3 “In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “the songs in the temple will turn to wailing. Many, many bodies—flung everywhere! Silence!”

4 Hear this, you who trample the needy

and do away with the poor of the land,

5 saying,

“When will the New Moon be over

    that we may sell grain,

and the Sabbath be ended

    that we may market wheat?”—

skimping on the measure,

    boosting the price

    and cheating with dishonest scales,

6 buying the poor with silver

and the needy for a pair of sandals,

selling even the sweepings with the wheat.

7 The Lord has sworn by himself, the Pride of Jacob: “I will never forget anything they have done.

8 “Will not the land tremble for this,

and all who live in it mourn?

The whole land will rise like the Nile;

it will be stirred up and then sink

    like the river of Egypt.

9 “In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord,

“I will make the sun go down at noon

and darken the earth in broad daylight.

10 I will turn your religious festivals into mourning

and all your singing into weeping.

I will make all of you wear sackcloth

    and shave your heads.

I will make that time like mourning for an only son

and the end of it like a bitter day.

11 “The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord,

“when I will send a famine through the land—

not a famine of food or a thirst for water,

but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.

12 People will stagger from sea to sea

and wander from north to east,

searching for the word of the Lord,

but they will not find it.

13 “In that day

“the lovely young women and strong young men

    will faint because of thirst.

14 Those who swear by the sin of Samaria—

who say, ‘As surely as your god lives, Dan,’

or, ‘As surely as the god[b] of Beersheba lives’—

they will fall, never to rise again.”

Jeremiah Chapter 16

Jeremiah 16 on deadly diseases and prohibition of gathering and celebration

Verse 4 They will die of deadly diseases. They will not be mourn or buried but will be like refuse lying on the ground.

Verse 8 Do not enter a house where there is feasting and sit down to eat and drink

Day of Disaster

1 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 2 “You must not marry and have sons or daughters in this place.” 3 For this is what the Lord says about the sons and daughters born in this land and about the women who are their mothers and the men who are their fathers: 4 “They will die of deadly diseases. They will not be mourned or buried but will be like dung lying on the ground. They will perish by sword and famine, and their dead bodies will become food for the birds and the wild animals.”

5 For this is what the Lord says: “Do not enter a house where there is a funeral meal; do not go to mourn or show sympathy, because I have withdrawn my blessing, my love and my pity from this people,” declares the Lord. 6 “Both high and low will die in this land. They will not be buried or mourned, and no one will cut themselves or shave their head for the dead. 7 No one will offer food to comfort those who mourn for the dead—not even for a father or a mother—nor will anyone give them a drink to console them.

8 “And do not enter a house where there is feasting and sit down to eat and drink. 9 For this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Before your eyes and in your days I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride and bridegroom in this place.

10 “When you tell these people all this and they ask you, ‘Why has the Lord decreed such a great disaster against us? What wrong have we done? What sin have we committed against the Lord our God?’ 11 then say to them, ‘It is because your ancestors forsook me,’ declares the Lord, ‘and followed other gods and served and worshiped them. They forsook me and did not keep my law. 12 But you have behaved more wickedly than your ancestors. See how all of you are following the stubbornness of your evil hearts instead of obeying me. 13 So I will throw you out of this land into a land neither you nor your ancestors have known, and there you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’

14 “However, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when it will no longer be said, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,’ 15 but it will be said, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.’ For I will restore them to the land I gave their ancestors.

16 “But now I will send for many fishermen,” declares the Lord, “and they will catch them. After that I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them down on every mountain and hill and from the crevices of the rocks. 17 My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from me, nor is their sin concealed from my eyes. 18 I will repay them double for their wickedness and their sin, because they have defiled my land with the lifeless forms of their vile images and have filled my inheritance with their detestable idols.”

19 Lord, my strength and my fortress,

my refuge in time of distress,

to you the nations will come

from the ends of the earth and say,

“Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods,

worthless idols that did them no good.

20 Do people make their own gods?

Yes, but they are not gods!”

21 “Therefore I will teach them—

this time I will teach them

    my power and might.

Then they will know

that my name is the Lord.

Isaiah 26:20

Isaiah 2:11

Exodus 30:18-21

18 “Make a bronze basin, with its bronze stand, for washing. Place it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it. 19 Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet with water from it. 20 Whenever they enter the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water so that they will not die. Also, when they approach the altar to minister by presenting a food offering to the Lord, 21 they shall wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come.”

Leviticus 13:4-5

Leviticus 13 on quarantine and mask

Verse 4-5 Requirement to quarantine for a disease infected person

4 If the shiny spot on the skin is white but does not appear to be more than skin deep and the hair in it has not turned white, the priest is to isolate the affected person for seven days. 5 On the seventh day the priest is to examine them, and if he sees that the sore is unchanged and has not spread in the skin, he is to isolate them for another seven days.

Leviticus 13:45-46

Verse 45 infected person must wear torn clothes (mask!) and

Verse 46 infected person must isolate

45 “Anyone with such a defiling disease must wear torn clothes, let their hair be unkempt, cover the lower part of their face and cry out, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’

46 As long as they have the disease they remain unclean. They must live alone; they must live outside the camp.

Heaven, Hope and Holiness – Expositions from 1 Corinthians 15, 2 Corinthians 4 and Colossians 3

Talk 1  The sure foundation of our Christian hope (1 Corinthians)
Talk 2  Christian hope and serving Christ today (2 Corinthians)
Talk 3. Living today with the certain hope of heaven (Colossians)

Hope forms an integral part of our Christian faith. One of the precious promises of the gospel is that through the Lord Jesus Christ we will spend an eternity in the joyful presence of the gracious God who made us and redeemed us. This Christian hope encourages us to persevere in our service of Christ and His people because whatever sufferings we might experience in this life are momentary compared to the hope of heaven. Christian hope also provides a powerful motivation for pursuing Christian holiness – hope gives our earthly lives a meaning beyond the grave! In the context of a world struggling in the grip of a pandemic, it is crucial that Christians immerse themselves in the Scriptures that speak to us so powerfully of our hope of heaven through Christ Jesus our Lord.”

如果明天就是下一生

Time drifts on between each breath for you and I When your destination arrives, have your dreams gone to rest? Body and mind worn out between each sunset and sunrise When calamity strikes, would then your heart return home? As one act after another plays out, unfamiliarity of nonexistence Seeking and searching, how to link pearls on a broken string? How to sing the missing notes? If tomorrow were your next life How would you spend your day today? If tomorrow were your next life How would you spend your day today? Use warmth to safeguard life from within Let each wave leave its trace behind Use mindfulness to protect wellbeing Let the wheel of life be given light Translator: Lindsay Chang / Tiffany Hsu

Lectio Divina - Divine Praying

Divine Praying

https://spiritualdirection.com/2012/04/21/what-is-lectio-divina-and-will-it-help-my-prayer-life-a-guide-to-lectio-divina

Lectio (reading): An attentive, slow, repetitious recitation of a short passage of scripture.

“looking on Holy Scripture with all one’s will and wit”

Meditatio (meditation): An effort to understand the passage and apply it to my own life.

“a studious searching with the mind to know what was before concealed”

Oratio (prayer): Engaging or talking with God about the passage.

“a devout desiring of the heart to get what is good and avoid what is evil”

Contemplatio (contemplation): Allowing oneself to be absorbed in the words of God as the Holy Spirit draws us into His presence through scripture.

“the lifting up of the heart to God tasting somewhat of the heavenly sweetness”

Prepare

Lectio (Read)

Meditatio (Reflect)

Oratio (Respond)

Contemplatio (Rest)

https://blog.theprodigalfather.org/lectio-divina

  1. Prepare - Know your passage ahead of time and meditate on it throughout the day. When you transition into prayer, take time to breathe, relax, slow down, and just rest.
  2. Place - go to your prayer place, room or chair. 90% of prayer is just being there.
  3. Posture - we pray using our bodies. Try one of the four postures: standing, sitting, kneeling, or prostrating.
  4. Presence - make the Sign of the Cross and invite the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit into this time of prayer. Invite God the Father to hold you, the Son to be the Good Shepherd to you, and the Holy Spirit to be Christ in you.
  5. Passage - hold the Bible in your lap and realize: "The Word of God is alive." The Father will speak to you!
